Memorial Day Special: Veteran Graphic Novels that you should read as you celebrate on Memorial Day

The Losers

Reason why you should read this on memorial day: Not to be confused with DC comic World War II Losers, the Losers I’m talking about is the DC Vertigo’s 2006 limited series about the story of five rouge black ops members and one mysterious woman name Aisha who later joins the group of CIA operative misfits. The Losers are a special forces Team that must cleared there names of being the CIA most wanted list. The Losers consist of Franklin Clay who is the leader  and has a main grudge on the main antagonist called Max, who  he and his squad left for dead during the 1990s. William Rouge is second in command and has a bad temper, he is also well known to have daggers and knives for the use of weapons. Jake Jasen is the nerdy, blonde hacker with a funny and witty sense of humor. Jasen is also my favorite character in the group who is viewed as the comic relief. Carlos “Cougar” Alavrez is a mute but accurate sniper and famous for wearing his cowboy hat and last but not least is Linewood “Pooch” Porteous who is a pilot and being a humble family man. Aisha joins the Losers later on in the story, she is a cold blooded killer with a mysterious ruthless past.

Media

The Losers movie adaptation was released on April 23 2010 but received mixed critic reviews for its enjoyable story and characters but was often criticized for its cliched plot and formulaic characters. However, the movie Losers have to be one of my best and underrated DC/Graphic Novel movies that I have ever watched. I love the movie so much I had to read the source material and I ended up loving both dearly. The actors that portrayed there comic book counterparts were Jeffrey Dean Morgan who played the character Clay, Chris Evans (Captain America!) as Jake Jasen, Idris Elba as Rogue and Zoe Saldana as Aisha. The reason you need to read this on memorial day: Its a re-imagining of the DC Unknown Soldier character that first appeared in Army of One in 1966. In this new take  Agent Clyde a.k.a the Unknown Soldier has a secret assignment to assassinate the Mexican president’s brother but forbid not to because two of his young children could be part of the hit. Clyde is often depicted as a “boy scout” because of his morality and his good work ethnic. When a mysterious name appears on his computer his instincts automatically kicks in, to track out the source of the mysterious name which will lead him to a unknown mystery that even the Unknown Soldier might cannot solve.
